Supplies:

  • Worsted weight yarn
  • 4.5mm to 5mm hook 
  • 3..5-3.75mm hook
  • Scissors
  • Needle to sew in ends

DC

FPDC- front Post DC

BPDC- Back post DC

HDC

SC

SLst

 

Notes: 

8 DC  into ring for Kids

10 DC into ring for women 

 

BODY:

 

Round 1:  ch 2 (does not count as DC here or throughout), 10 DC into 2nd chain from the hook, SLst into top of first DC

 

Round 2:  ch 2, FPDC around first DC, DC between the stitches from previous round, FPDC, continue around. Slst into top of the first FPDC

 

Round 3: ch 2, FPDC around the FPDC, 2DC into the DC, FPDC, continue around. SLst into top  first FPDC

 

Round 4: ch 2, 2FPDC, BPDC around the DC, BPDC around the DC, 2FPDC, continue around, SLst into top of first FPDC

 

Round 5: ch 2, FPDC, DC into BPDC, FPDC, DC, DC, continue around , SLst into top of first FPDC

 

Round 6:ch 2, FPDC, 2BPDC around the DC, FPDC, BPDC, BPDC, repeat around, SLst into to top of the first FPDC

 

Round 7: ch 2, FPDC, DC, DC, FPDC, continue around, SLst into top of first FPDC

 

Round 8: ch 2, FPDC, BPDC, BPDC, FPDC, continue around, SLst into top of first FPDC

 

Repeat rounds 7 & 8 until hat height measures 7inches 

 

When hat height is 7inches, switch to smaller hook. Use stitch marker to mark starting point. 

HDC around (do not join rounds, but leave stitch marker in the starting place) until hat height measures 8.5 to 9 inches. Fasten off. Leave stitch marker in place

Brim:

From stitch marker, count 15 stitches  to the Left- mark with a stitch marker and to the Right- mark with stitch marker. This is marking the brim. From now on this is the “front” of the hat. 

 

Turn hat so “front” (stitch markers) are facing you, remove the middle stitch marker. 

 

SC into the stitch marked stitch on the RIght. SC across to the other st marker. Ch1, turn

 

SC into the next stitch, 2SC into the next stitch, 2HDC into the next stitch. HDC ascoss until 3 stitches left, 2HDC into stitch, 2SC into next, SC into last. Ch1, turn

 

SC across, ch 1, turn

 

SC in 3 stitches, HDC across, SC in last 3 stitches, ch 1 turn

 

SC in 3 stitches, HDC across, SC in last 3 stitches, ch 1, turn

 

SC across brim and all the way around the hat, Slst into the first stitch of the brim. Fasten off

 

Sew in ends.
